Joki Länteen | River to the West

The new Metro West (Länsimetro) in Espoo, Finland has brought about rapid changes in the landscapes around it. These changes are most often not directly linked to the metro itself but are due to the increased accessability of the areas. Metro West has brought economic prosperity and growth to Espoo, as a result Espoo’s landscape has changed enormously. With a reduction in natural landscapes and the destruction of important natural wetlands, my project examines the changes in the landscape through the medium of photography. As the project has progressed I have been drawn to the traces left in the landscape due to the metro’s development. These traces are often represented by constant encounters with the colour orange which is synonymous with the Helsinki/Espoo metro line.
